24-Hour Emergency and Specialty Care for Special Pets in Southeastern Michigan
A Note About COVID-19
Dear OVRS Clients,
Oakland Veterinary Referral Services is committed to keeping both our staff and our clients safe by doing our part to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. One way that we are accomplishing this is by practicing social distancing, and limiting the amount of person-to-person interaction. Effective immediately, we ask that you please remain in your car if your pet has a non-life-threatening injury, illness, or condition. We may also ask you to wait in your car while exams, diagnostic testing, or other procedures are performed on your pet. For everyone’s safety, we do ask that face coverings be worn when interacting directly with any of our staff.
Any forms required for your appointment must be completed and submitted electronically through our website prior to your arrival. For new consultations, please reference the hyperlinks included in your welcome email. For recheck appointments, please reference the webpage of the department you will be seeing on our website for the proper forms.
Upon arrival for your appointment, please call our hospital and provide the following information:
Your Pet’s Name
Your Name
The Name of the Doctor or Department Your Pet is Seeing
A team member from the department that you are seeing will call you back to discuss next steps, including our appointment process and how we will work with you to obtain your pet’s medical history, provide care plan recommendations, and let you know the expected wait time.
In general, when it’s time for your pet’s appointment, a member of our team will come to your car to retrieve your pet. The team member will fit your pet with a leash from our hospital; please keep your pet’s leash and collar with you for safekeeping. You will also be informed of the approximate time to expect a phone call from the doctor.
A doctor or member of their department’s team will then call you to discuss your pet’s condition and review a care plan that includes diagnostic testing and treatment recommendations. This information will also be emailed to you so you can review the information and ask any questions you may have.
Your call will then be transferred to a client service representative to take payment over the phone. Your pet will be brought back to your car.
If your pet is experiencing a life-threatening emergency, a team member will come up to the lobby and meet you as you arrive. They will take your pet to the treatment area, and you will be asked to go out to your car to fill out the necessary paperwork. The doctor will then call you after your pet has been stabilized to discuss treatment recommendations.
If your pet is hospitalized, we are unable to accept items from home such as beds and toys. Visitation is also limited to life- threatening or end-of-life circumstances.
When possible, we are requesting that medication refills be called in to a pharmacy. We will try to accommodate curbside pick-up of medications and food, or we can mail them to you. Please call in advance to see if we can schedule food or medication pick up, to avoid longer wait times as our staff help other clients with appointments.
Thank you for trusting Oakland Veterinary Referral Services to provide care and service for your pet. If you have any questions regarding your pet’s appointment, please call our hospital directly.
