Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT)
Licensed Veterinary Technicians at OVRS are essential members of our specialty and emergency care teams. Our LVTs use their education, technical abilities, and clinical judgment to provide advanced nursing care in a collaborative hospital environment.
Responsibilities
- Triage patients and obtain complete medical histories
- Perform patient assessments and monitor hospitalized patients
- Collect blood, urine, and other diagnostic samples
- Place intravenous catheters and administer prescribed medications and treatments
- Perform laboratory testing and assist with diagnostic imaging
- Prepare patients for procedures and provide anesthesia support and monitoring
- Assist with emergency and critical care procedures
- Maintain accurate treatment sheets and medical records
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients
- Provide patient restraint and nursing care using low-stress techniques
- Maintain equipment, treatment areas, and appropriate inventory
- Support and mentor veterinary assistants and less-experienced team members
Qualifications
- Current Michigan veterinary technician license or eligibility for licensure
- Graduate of an accredited veterinary technology program
- Strong technical, communication, and critical-thinking skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team
- Comfort working with seriously ill or injured patients
- Ability to prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced clinical setting
- Specialty or emergency experience is preferred but not required
- Availability to work assigned days, evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed
