Pumpkin coffee, pumpkin bread, pumpkin pasta, and pumpkin beer are widely available. There are even pumpkin spice hair and nail colors to choose from at your local salon. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The pumpkin trend appears to be firmly rooted in our culture for the time being, so why not let pets in on the fun? Pumpkin pet treats are easy to make, and can bring happiness (and nutrition) to your pet\u2019s day.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Pumpkin Pet Treats<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fall\u2019s favorite squash is not only versatile; it\u2019s packed with nutrients such as vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium, and beta-carotene. Pumpkins are also low-calorie, high-fiber, and fairly inexpensive this time of year. <\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pinterest and other similar websites are chock full of interesting recipes, but we\u2019ve narrowed it down to two of our favorites, sure to please the discerning dog or cat in your life.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Pumpkin dog treats:<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2 \u00bd cups flour*<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2 eggs<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00be cup canned pumpkin puree<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3 tablespoons all-natural peanut butter (make sure Xylitol is not an ingredient)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bd teaspoon ground cinnamon<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bd teaspoon salt<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Add ingredients to bowl and whisk until dough forms. Dough should be dry and stiff, yet workable (add water as needed). Roll dough into a \u00bd-inch-thick roll. Cut into \u00bd inch pieces. Bake in preheated oven until hard, about 40 minutes.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h3><b>Pumpkin cat treats:<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00be cup flour* <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 can of tuna (packed in water, drained)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2 tablespoons canned pumpkin puree<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 teaspoon dried catnip<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients in a medium bowl until dough is formed. Roll dough on a floured surface until it forms a 1-inch-thick log, then cut into bite sized pieces. Bake on a parchment-lined cookie sheet for 20 minutes.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b><i>*<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">substitute rice or buckwheat flour for a gluten-free version, if you, your pet or someone in your family has a sensitivity.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h3><b>The Skinny on Produce for Pets<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your pet is eating a high quality <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ovrs.com\/blog\/pet-nutrition\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dog or cat food<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that has been approved by your veterinarian, he or she shouldn\u2019t need to supplement with fruits and vegetables. That being said, many pets enjoy the taste of fruits and veggies, and in moderation they can make delicious low-calorie snacks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Try offering any of the following veggies and fruits to your pet, lightly steamed or baked, with no added salt, sugar, or fats:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green beans<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Broccoli<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cauliflower<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sweet potato<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spinach<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zucchini<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Peas<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carrots<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Celery<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Corn<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apples (cored, seeds removed)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pears (cored, seeds removed)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Berries<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember, even safe people food should always be served sparingly to pets, and should never be a replacement for a high quality pet food.
