For many of us, leaving our pets at home when we go out of town is simply not an option, which is why we have compiled a list of our favorite local pet friendly getaway destinations, along with a few pet travel tips for safety&#8217;s sake.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Where To Go, Where To Go?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is beauty and adventure to be found in every state in the union, but here at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ovrs.com\/about-us\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OVRS<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, we agree with the ad campaign that our great state is one of the most beautiful in the country. They don\u2019t call it \u201cPure Michigan\u201d for nothing!<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check out some of our wonderful, and local, pet friendly destinations for a quick getaway this summer such as:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.org\/hot-spots\/traverse-city\/\"><b>Traverse City<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where you and your furry pal can enjoy pet-friendly beaches and a fun downtown district<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.org\/property\/sleeping-bear-dunes-lakeshore\/\"><b>Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore<\/b><\/a><b> is miles of gorgeous sand bluffs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, inland lakes, and woods. Climb the dunes with your pet for a stunning view of Lake Michigan.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>If you\u2019re the outdoorsy type<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, head further north to the U.P., where you can stay in <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.exploringthenorth.com\/pets\/lodging.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pet friendly<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> campgrounds, hotels, or resorts, while you explore the stunning landscape.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>If you\u2019ve never been to <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.org\/hot-spots\/holland\/\"><b>Holland<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Michigan, you\u2019re missing out. Besides tulips (lots and lots of tulips), Holland boasts a variety of pet-friendly hotels and restaurants, a historic and fun downtown, and beautiful dunes and beaches.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Feel like some city living? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Head to metro Detroit for a quick urban getaway with your pet. Hit up a pet friendly restaurant before exploring the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.org\/property\/the-detroit-riverfront\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Detroit Riverfront<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with your pooch, followed by an afternoon of sightseeing and shopping.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Pet Travel Tips<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Figuring out where to go and where to stay is important, but of course the safety and comfort of your furry friend should be your top priority regardless of where your summer travels take you. Keep the following pet travel tips in mind for a fun and safe adventure with your furry companion:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Schedule a wellness exam for your pet before you leave. Besides assessing your pet\u2019s overall health, your veterinarian will make sure he or she is up to date on vaccinations and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ovrs.com\/blog\/pet-parasite-prevention-101\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">parasite preventives<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, both of which are necessary for safe travels.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you will be crossing state lines, you may need a pet health certificate, especially if you and your pet are traveling by plane. Keep your pet\u2019s collar and tags on at all times during your trip.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keep your pet\u2019s medical records and a photograph on hand. Make sure his or her crate or travel kennel is clearly identifiable.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pack the essentials! Besides food and water (and bowls to eat and drink from), bring along any medications your pet is taking, plus favorite treats, toys, and bedding to help your pet to feel more relaxed in a new environment.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A disruption in the daily routine can be extremely taxing for some pets.
