That\u2019s right, national Take Your Dog To Work day is right around the corner (June 24<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this year to be exact), and if you have the right type of dog, and the right type of boss, you may be looking forward to this annual event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since every day is take your dog (or cat) to work day here at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ovrs.com\/about-us\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oakland Veterinary Referral Services<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, we figured we would share our tips for a safe and successful workplace visit for you and your best pal.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Know Thy Dog<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After clearing it with your boss, of course, the first step in getting ready to bring your dog to work should be to honestly assess your dog to see if he or she has what it takes for a full day of work. Is your dog\u2026<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Housetrained? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 This seems obvious, but your dog should be fully house trained before joining you at work. After all, the office is no place for dog pee.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Overly anxious? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 If your dog is extremely shy or timid, or finds new people and places overwhelming, he or she is better off at home.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Aggressive? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Dogs who have shown <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ovrs.com\/blog\/dog-fights\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">aggression<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> towards people or other dogs in the past are not good candidates for a day in the office.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Recently groomed? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 If not, give him or her a bath and a good <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ovrs.com\/blog\/nose-to-tail-how-to-perform-a-pet-skin-check\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">brushing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the night before. First impressions are everything, after all.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Safety First<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course, the safety of your dog and your coworkers is of the utmost importance. Keep the following safety tips in mind:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check with your coworkers to make sure there aren\u2019t any dog <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ovrs.com\/blog\/fact-or-fiction-the-truth-about-allergy-free-dogs\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">allergies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. If anyone is allergic, leave Fido at home.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dog-proof your workspace by removing any poisonous plants or chemicals. If your dog is a chewer, secure or hide cords and wires, and put anything your dog might chew on out of the way.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many people foods are toxic for dogs so play it safe and don\u2019t assume they know what is safe or allow co-workers to feed your dog unless you okay it.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the safety of your dog and any other dog that may be there, make sure he or she is up to date on all vaccines and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ovrs.com\/blog\/pet-parasite-prevention-101\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">parasite<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> preventives before the big day.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Bring Your Dog To Work<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Planning is key to a triumphant Bring Your Dog To Work Day:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keep plenty of water, healthy treats, and chew toys on hand for your dog.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bring your dog\u2019s crate or bedding and create a spot near your desk for him or her to lie down.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pay attention to your dog. See that he or she isn\u2019t bothering anyone else, getting into the trash, sniffing around the office kitchen, etc. Make sure to take him or her outside plenty of times.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8230;But not too much attention! You still need to get your work done!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, clean up after your dog.
