What is the Cliome Collins Cancer Fund?

When the TEAR foundation was founded, the main objective was to support families facing severe financial hardships in need of emergency veterinary care for their pets. Our oncology patients, however, did not meet the TEAR’s criteria for providing financial assistance funding. The Cliome Collins Cancer Fund was founded by Sandra Collins and the oncology team at Oakland Veterinary Referral Services in 2008 to help provide financial assistance to our oncology patients. The Cliome Collins Cancer Fund are designated funds within the The Emergency Animal Relief (TEAR) foundation in which the primary goal is to provide support to qualified clients in need of financial assistance by providing grants to help supplement the cost of cancer treatment for their pet.

As this fund continues to grow, our future goals include:

  • Develop and support research that advances the prevention and treatment of cancer for pets.
  • Sponsor the purchase of new cancer treatments or equipment to provide better treatment options for our animal cancer patients.

With the generous donations made from families designating their funds to be used for pets with cancer, owners of pets diagnosed with cancer now have somewhere to turn to for funding of cancer treatment. The TEAR foundation is tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (EIN 20-4383848).

Who is Cliome?

Cliome was a beautiful Maine Coon, diagnosed with intestinal adenocarcinoma at the age of 10 years. Cliome name combines "Clio" (C-L-I-O) the muse of history with Cleome (C-L-E-O-M-E), one of her owner’s favorite summer flowers which were in full bloom on the day she first came to her. She brought with her the wisdom of history while being a most beautiful and delicate flower. The Cliome Collins Cancer Fund is named in honor of the spirit and vitality of a special cat. She passed away on June 27th, 2008.
