Oakland Veterinary Referral Services: The Premier Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Care Facility for Southeastern MI
Our mission statement…
Welcome to the Oakland Veterinary Referral Services (OVRS). We are a specialty veterinary hospital located in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. At OVRS we strive to provide the best veterinary pet care possible, to practice veterinary medicine with compassion, and to demonstrate consideration for our clients' needs and desires. We find it especially rewarding to practice veterinary medicine as a team and to deliver consistent high-quality veterinary health care to our patients. For the convenience of our clients and the well being of our patients, our dedicated team of specialists and emergency staff are available 24 hours everyday of the year.
Oakland Veterinary Referral Services (OVRS) has helped more than 60,000 patients since founded in 1989 by Dr. Lucy Henney, a board-certified veterinary surgeon. Today, our 28,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility consists of veterinarians (most of whom are board-certified) and offer the following services: Anesthesia, Cardiology, Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Emergency/Critical Care, Dermatology/Allergy, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Ophthalmology, and Soft-Tissue and Orthopedic Surgery. Furthermore, OVRS also offers Behavioral consultations, and runs an in-house Blood Bank.
Our board-certified specialists have undertaken advanced training (1-year internships and 2 to 3-year residencies, in addition to veterinary school). If your pet has a chronic disease or life-threatening injury, your veterinarian can turn to an OVRS specialist who spends every day treating companions with your pet’s specific illness. Like you, we treat our own pets as important members of our family. That is why we do our best to practice the most up-to-date medicine, using advanced technology and compassionate care provided by our staff of receptionists, veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants as well as our skilled veterinarians. OVRS will work as a team with you and your family veterinarian to give your pet the best chance for a full recovery!
Oakland Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (OVECC) is the premier veterinary emergency facility in Oakland County. Our emergency hospital is open 24-hours a day and 7-days a week providing emergency coverage for all veterinarians and to all pet owners in the surrounding communities in Oakland County, as well as Ohio and Northern Michigan (including the Upper Peninsula). We are able to provide prompt, advanced veterinary care to the most critical patients using the latest technological advances and a skilled staff of veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and experienced emergency veterinarians/clinicians. OVECC has earned the confidence of our referring veterinarian community, which is why we are frequently their first choice for after-hours emergency care. Our goal is to ensure that all pets receive prompt and quality emergency care whenever the need arises. Coupled with Oakland Veterinary Referral Service’s veterinary specialists, our team offers the best patient care available, any time, day or night.
Our Non-Profit Organizations
The “Buddies For Life” blood bank was established in 1997.
Much like the need for human blood products veterinary hospitals are in constant need of similar products. With only a few commercial blood banks available in the United States, it is important for OVRS to have access to a supply of blood products with our in-house blood bank.
The “Buddies For Life” blood bank looks to the community for support, recruiting an average of 30 new donors each to year to keep up with the demand.
The Emergency Animal Relief (TEAR) foundation is a 501(c)3 not for profit charitable organization started by the employees of OVRS in 2006. Our primary mission is to provide charitable funding for emergency medical care for sick and injured animals brought in by “Good Samaritans,” and provide funding for education and outreach concerning animal care.
